"Hotel de Russie", later "Baltischer Hof"

The hotel "Zum Weissen Schwan" here originated in 1840. After the big fire in 1854 it became rebuilt. R. Gudatis the owner named the hotel "Hotel de Russie" after the old inn of same name which had been closed in Libauer Straße 20.

Because Memel suffered by the Russians in the first World War, the hotel should no longer have the name "Hotel de Russie". The house became named "Baltischer Hof" now. The owner at that time was Adolf Meyer. After his death Meyer's widow married Mr Otto Frick who then from 1925 to 1945 was the owner of the hotel. At that time the hotel had 40 rooms. It was equipped with a central heating (already installed by Adolf Meyer), there were parking lots and even a gas station belonged to the hotel.
